Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says it's in the interest of Israeli security to arrive at a lasting peace with the Palestinians.

Obama spoke at a press conference in Sderot, near the Gaza border. The city has been a frequent target of rocket attacks from Palestinian militants.

In Obama's words: "America must always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself against those who threaten its people."

No doubt about that. Now, if only the Palestinians realized that it's in THEIR interests to arrive at a lasting peace with Israel...
Unfortunately, peace is a tango where BOTH SIDES must participate. As long as the Palestinians and their democratically elected leaders (yes, under either Hamas or Abbas) do not recognize the right of Israel to EXIST telling Israelis that it's in the interest of Israeli security to arrive at a lasting peace with the Palestinians will remain futile.
