Hackers Attack Epilepsy Forum; Cause Headaches, Seizures

Gadgets & Tech – I have a colleague with epilepsy, and he told me today about an attack last weekend on the user forums of the Epilepsy Foundation of America (EFA), "the national voluntary agency solely dedicated to the welfare of the more than 3 million people with epilepsy in the U.S. and their families."

Oh, that's amazing news.

as an epileptic I cant begin to tell you how angry this makes me. I dont even know what name to give to this sort of evil. to purposely cause harm to people, without even the Machiavellian argument of personal benefit or the sadist satisfaction of seeing the suffering, just doing it to know that suffering will occur to someone due to your efforts... what sort of sociopath thinks of that?

for those of you who don't suffer from this malady, allow me to give you some perspective. My condition is diagnosed as "juvenile onsite myoclonic epilepsy" which means that it began when I was a teenager as "absence seizures" then advanced over time into full blown "grand mal" seizures.

during an "absence seizure" you will be performing a normal task, then drop out of consciousness, then come back in a couple seconds later. this is often accompanied by a loss of muscle control, which means you regain consciousness in a new position. it is always confusing and often painful.

a "grand mal" seizure you will lose consciousness and all motor control. your muscles begin contracting and expanding rapidly, without intent and sometimes you lose control of your urethra and bowels . you however are aware of none this as you are unconscious. when you awake you are confused, disoriented, dizzy, muscles are sore, and often you are injured. I have dislocated my shoulder more times than I can count, bit through my tongue, tore off flesh on my back from rubbing on furniture upholstery, and nearly died from having a seizure while in the shower- if my roomate had not found me, I would be dead.

I am not asking for sympathy or pity. Everyone has burdens to bear, this is mine. I do however expect that people will not attempt to trigger seizures. As I said, a seizure nearly killed me. These hackers should be found and charged with attempted murder! I want these a-holes. I want them in a jail cell for the rest of their lives.
