A man with a vested interest says that game consoles will be dead in 10 years. They died for a while because computers were better. However different companies brought new ones out and they took off. The very serious gamers have very expensive computers but everyone else gets consoles. Compare a PSP3 to a serious Game computer at about $5000 or more. Which will you buy for those games. Wii consoles are very popular not for processing power but for the innovation of the remotes.
I can possibly see a universal tuner/console/dvd player/Tivo/streaming video but usually the kids will want to play games while others want to see something else. This problem would have to be solved in order for the game consoles to die. Multiple outputs feeding monitors in different rooms with remote control for each output in the different rooms. Would the consoles be the same for all manufacturers or different like now. Nobody can see the future only guess.
