Parents have got to take a more hands on approach to keep kids from doing exactly what this one did--lie about her age. Parents have got to move into the 21st century here-the internet to teens is what phones in our bedrooms and calls were to us when we were growing up and I'll tell ya right now my parents monitored all my calls when I was a teen(and B4) -Its got to be the same today just with a different medium.

Most parents are NOT in a good position to establish this kind of control on their kids. In most families both parents are working and the kids are home on their own a lot, a problem in itself. Sorry but I'm for censorship of the internet, radio, TV and movies because parents cannot enforce their rules because they simply are not there to do it. Might have been different when everyone lived out in the country with no close neighbors but that's not how it is now. You can put all kinds of safeguards on YOUR computer and YOUR TV or not even have them in your house but you can't control what your kids are seeing at the neighbors.

If they can't parent because they haven't got the time, then I have to wonder why they decided to become parents in the first place?
I find a lack of guidance an unsettling trend. Parents will throw the latest gadget at the kid and consider it good parenting.
Kids can grow up just fine without a lot of material junk, but without nurturing and guidance they are lost, as we are seeing in a lot of kids.

I agree a little with everyone here. Even children with the highest of acidemics and the best of parants are becoming victims on MySpace. I would not allow a child a computer in a private room of the house. Most parents I talk to give their children a computer for homework. They do not know if their child has a MySpace. I told them to help them with their childs homework this way you put yourself at the computer with them and this also helps you gain a better relationship with your child. MySpace should do more to protect children from becoming victims. Their are countless sex offenders searching MySpace for your kids. They know how to get your childs attention so they do not feel violated. That is a lot working against them.
