The Inventor of LEDs Wins Millennium Prize »

Basically the Nobel Prize in technology, the Millennium prize was given to Shuji Nakamura, who invented the light emitting diode, and then continued his research creating white, blue, green and blue laser diodes. The only other Millennium prize so far was given to Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the Internet.
