Great guide. I'm guilty of breaking some of these rules, I'm sure.

I promise to try to do better going forward.

The only one I kind of am odds with is Dont Dupe... I dupe, but dont MEAN to dupe. Often the sotry with a diffrent URL is already in Netscape, but the tag system is not used properly and finding it is fairly hard. I do like how Netscape does put similiar article on the bottom of the submit page, it seems to search the article rather then tags, but I am still guilty.

Another good thig would be to report Dupes, or better, link your URL to that Story. When a Story first breaks, its often small and short on Facts, instead of adding another story, add it to the original.

I'm confused! Not the first time. 'The dictionary' defines "DUPE" as follows: (Quoted directly from an online dictionary.)

1. An easily deceived person.

2. A person who functions as the tool of another person or power.

>>>Isn't the word being used in this discussion supposed to mean "duplicate?" Often written as 'dup'

Perhaps I am "easily deceived" {:)}

@Webreader, sorry for the confusion. In this context, 'dupe' is short for 'duplicate'. It is commonly used jargon on sites like Netscape.

Don't question the algorithm?

@rrrtx: I would suggest not questioning it in a comment thread where it may be off-topic. However, I have found it informative from time to time to write to the site's support staff to inquire about it. They wont give away the steak, but sometimes they give you a taste of the sizzle :)

The "algorithm" keeps placing articles with a far left political slant at the top of the rankings. How can someone not question how that happens?

That's a fair point, rrrtx. You should ask support@ about that.

But so many are your submissions neophile. Certainly you must know how a story you submitted that fits a certain profile would repeatedly make it to the top of the list.

Sorry to be so persistent but I find it troubling and I know many other participants at this site wonder the same thing.

Sorry rrrtx, I don't know how the promotion algorithm works here. As far as I know, stories get pushed to the front page when they get enough votes.

There, I went and broke one of the "don'ts" :)

Nice guide for Netscapers. Cheers!
