Digg For Life Blog accuses Weblogs, Inc bloggers of gaming Digg »
Posted by: titlesaysitall 2 years agoAOL has now been publicly called out for spamming on Digg. It was discussed in a Digg topic yesterday. Despite Calacanis' efforts, the anti-AOL commenter still got 28 diggs. Let's force this to the main page so Digg can take action. They do the exact thing on Digg that gets people banned from Netscape. (Contains list of 25 spam accounts).

Aug. 15, 2006, 7:27 p.m.14 votes from 14 people whose submissions are all Weblogs Inc sites. Must just be that the planets are aligned.

Aug. 15, 2006, 7:29 p.m.How is this different from the huge group of Apple fans who digg all-things-Apple?

Aug. 15, 2006, 7:31 p.m.@ Neophile, because they aren't trying to promote their own blogs and aren't in a group telling each other digg this because it will spam Digg but promote our blog.

Aug. 15, 2006, 7:59 p.m.Dugg (not 'scaped.), even though the new title put in place by the Navigator is completely biased.
The only interest these people share is the success of Netscape.
The conclusions this blogger reached and the reasons he reached them do effectively bust AOL for spamming.
Apple fans digg apple stories because they apple fans. AOL employees vote on AOL stories because they are AOL employees.

Aug. 15, 2006, 8:03 p.m.Voting on Joe Blow @ AOL's story isn't going to make your paycheck any bigger or your work day any shorter. If they really wanted to spam, they would do it effectively with a few more than 14 people.
I'm pretty sure AOL has more than 14 people. That's just my two cents.

Aug. 15, 2006, 9:05 p.m.sure maybe it wasnt 100% of the employees digging it, but it was definitely 100% of those who digged that were from calacanis stuff.

Aug. 15, 2006, 9:52 p.m.Huh, this is pretty sad. Netscape is very lame for doing these kinds of stupid things:p

Aug. 15, 2006, 10:27 p.m.Digg seems to have a bunch of followers that are totally passive aggressive towards everything they can be; it is typical for them to support any front page story except for the obvious 'trolls.' This is no surprise that they tried to condescend Netscape.
I have noticed in my short period of time of reading Slashdot, Digg, and Netscape that Slashdot and Netscape have more legitiment stories than Digg does, that site is such a joke, but it does have a few interesting bits once in a while.

Aug. 15, 2006, 10:41 p.m.As an accused "spammer" I'd like to chime in...
1. I only digg (or scape, for that matter) stories that I think are cool. And those are not just Weblogs posts, either.
2. My co-workers recommend diggs, just like everyone's uncle, nephew, brother, etc. Big deal. It's human nature to be proud of your work (or that of your peers). While I haven't been OCD'ing on digg lately, that's because I'm too busy.
3. I have never been instructed by AOL to digg something. That is certainly spamming, unethical, and without a shred of integrity. I would not be a party to such nonsense.
The only reason I won't bother with a libel suit is because there's no harm done. This guy loves digg, that's cool. [pat on head] The more trolls I see on digg, the more I realize why Netscape has anchors and navigators...

Aug. 16, 2006, 11:15 a.m.Netscape has anchors and navigators because they cant afford to run a real democracy. If Netscape wasn't censored, then half the stories on the front page would be anti-Netscape.

Yeah but how many of AOL employees actually give a rats ass about the new "Netscape"? Probably just the 14 that dug it.
"Netscape has anchors and navigators because they cant afford to run a real democracy."
I agree. The "Netscape Anchor Commentary" is especially reeks of our-opinio... crap.
If the 'anchors' want to try to have their opinion be heard, they should post a comment like the rest of the users. Not put it above and center in a bright orange box that users cant do a "Good/Bad/Block" vote on.
