July 19, 2006, 2:25 p.m.Text messaging a.k.a. SMS in Europe has been popular in Europe for years. Every teenager has their own short abbreviated language even in german. Most people in Europe can do their text quickly without looking at the keys. The messages are similar to a personalized license plate i.e. u r gr8t. c u @ 9
The reason texting is more popular is that mobile phones are more popular than computers. Further, in Austria there are more mobile phones than cars! Also, texting is a cheap and fast way to communicate with a vast array of phones to choose from in Europe. I am surprised cell phone companies did not make this technology available earlier to consumers.

July 19, 2006, 3:46 p.m.I also use both email and text all the time. I don't like texting as much as I would rather the person call me to ask how I'm doing because (of odd coinincidence) I receive 90% of text messages while I'm driving.

Aug. 4, 2006, 9:21 a.m.Oh txting is the best. Strangely it's become pretty much the sole communication vehicle I have with my brother and one of my best friends.
